I AM GOING TO TYPE BELOW INFORMATION FAXED TO ME
FROM RUTH
FOWLER & MARY PLASTERER, Lisa Ocker
Captain Richard Budd served with the 96th Regiment, during the Civil War.
He was a native of Williamstown, PA, Dauphin Co. He also received wounds from
this conflict.
When the War came to an end, he returned to his home and brought with him
a battle torn flag from which pieces had been shot away and a camp chair,
which had been General Grants, as a souvenir of the war.
Every holiday for years the flag was flown in front of his home and people
would come to view this relic. I understand that eventually the flag was given
to the State Museum.
The camp chair remained in his possession until his death and then was passed
down to his son Andrew Budd, his widow broke up her home. She was a close
friend of Mrs. Ann Fowler and gave the chair to her as a prized possession.
Upon Mrs. Fowlers death the chair came into the possession of her husband
John Fowler from whom I, Mr. Fowlers second wife, heard the history of the
chair, also inheriting the same. I have pass the possession of said chair
to John Plasterer
Signed Ruth Fowler
John M. Plasterer inherited General Grants camp chair from Mrs. Ruth Fowler
and kept it in his possession until he deceased January 24, 1977
Upon his death, I, Mary K. Plasterer, widow of John M. Plasterer, inherited
said chair.
I then passed said chair, a prized possession to my nephew Wilford S.Plasterer,
Clay Hill Penna. With papers of full informations
Signed Mary K. Plasterer
