Frank Feather carved a cane for J. Fred Hollingshead in the mid 1930's while staying in his barn. Frank worked for Fred on his gentlemen farm for a week in return for food and shelter. Fred and his wife Rhoda with their daughter lived at 5362 Bino Rd, Greencastle, PA at the time of Franks stay. After Fred's death in 1992 and his wife Rhoda's death months later, the cane went to their only daughter Helen Helman of Chambersburg. After Helen's death in 2002 the cane went to Fred's only granddaughter Diane Hammond of Chambersburg. Diane stayed with her grandparents often and as a child had always heard the story of Frank Feather and the beautiful cane he carved for them and how they always cherished it. It has stayed in the family for 3 generations.
